Frequently Asked Questions

General

How do I add a Townbase widget to my site?

We send you a short script. You paste it into your site’s HTML or embed block and hit publish. That’s it. Your events and places show up right away with your own look and feel.

Can I keep my own branding and layout?

Yes. You choose fonts, colors and layout from ready-made options, or use your own CSS. Visitors feel like they stay on your site, not a third party page.

Where do the events and place listings come from?

You can pull in content from leading ticketing and event tools, mix it with your own events and venue data, and show everything in one view. If your partners already use big ticketing brands, we can usually connect to those too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Product Mechanics

What types of event widgets does Townbase offer?

Townbase offers several embeddable widget layouts to suit different display needs. These include multiple event list formats such as a 3-card grid, a horizontal content roller, and a full search widget — all designed to surface local events, places, and activities in a visually engaging way directly on your website.

How are Townbase widgets embedded on a website?

Townbase widgets are embedded via embed script, making them straightforward to add to virtually any webpage or CMS without requiring custom development work. Platforms like WordPress, Drupal, LandingRabbit and many others include native script embed fields that automatically detect and display Townbase widgets correctly — no additional configuration needed.

Can I install multiple Townbase widgets on the same page?

Yes. There is no limit to how many Townbase widgets can be installed on a single page. You can combine different widget types — for example, a featured event carousel alongside a filtered category list — to create a rich, fully localised content experience for your visitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Customisation & Branding

What styling and branding options are available for Townbase widgets?

Townbase widgets support CSS-level overrides including theme variables, font settings, and colour parameters. These can all be managed directly from the widget management window, making it easy to align the widget's appearance with your organisation's brand identity without needing a developer.

Can I control how content is displayed and how users interact with the widget?

Yes. The widget management window gives you control over a range of display and interaction options, including how many content pieces are shown by default, how many load after a "Show More" button (which can be custom labelled), and whether clicking an item opens content in a pop-up, expands inline, or navigates directly to the source page.

Can the widget be extended with search and filtering functionality?

Absolutely. Any Townbase widget can be extended into a full search widget with parameters including date-range selectors, category dropdowns, area dropdowns, and predictive search fields. Custom geographic areas can also be added as filtering options, giving local authorities, DMOs, and media publishers granular control over what their audiences can discover.

What types of content can a Townbase widget display?

Townbase widgets can surface any content type supported by the Townbase platform, including events, places, hobbies, articles, activities, and business listings. Each widget load displays up to 12 content pieces by default. Users can then load additional content via a "Show More" button. The platform supports unlimited successive loads, so there is no hard cap on how much content a visitor can ultimately browse through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Integration & Distribution

Which CMS platforms support Townbase widgets natively?

Townbase widgets work out of the box with a wide range of web publishing platforms. Drupal, WordPress, LandingRabbit, and many others include native embed fields that detect and render Townbase widgets automatically. For platforms without a native field, any page that supports iframe embeds will work.
