FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions End Users Login & Accounts

I cannot log in – what should I do?

First, check that you have confirmed your email address during registration. If the confirmation link has expired, request a new one on the login page. If the problem persists, contact your portal's local support.

I tried to create an account but the email address is already in use – what should I do?

You most likely already have an account with this email address. Try the "Forgot password?" option on the login page. The issue may also be caused by the same username already being in use. Try creating an account with your email but a different username. If this does not work either, contact local support.

Nothing happens when I click the Create account button.

Check that all required fields have been filled in correctly. Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox). If that does not work, open a private or incognito browser window and try again. If the problem persists, contact local support.

How do I delete my account?

Log in and go to account settings. Navigate to the Delete tab. If you receive an "Access denied" error, contact portal support – an admin can delete the account on your behalf. The account will be permanently removed from the system after 3 months.

I published an event but it does not appear in the calendar – why?

The portal may have a moderation policy where an admin reviews events before they are published. Wait for approval or check that all required fields have been filled in.

The system rejects my website URL even though it is correct.

Make sure the URL starts with https://. Certain special characters or incorrect formatting can cause an error. Note that, for example, a Facebook address should start with https://www.facebook.com/... and not m.facebook.com/. If the address is definitely correct, contact local support.

I cannot find my venue in the list when creating an event.

The venue must be findable in Google Maps. If it is missing from Google Maps, it must be added there first. Alternatively, you can enter the address manually in the address search. Check that your address appears in the correct location on the map – if the map cannot find your address, your content will not be published.

My event shows the wrong time.

The calendar shows the local time of the event venue. If the time is incorrect, check that the correct date and time have been entered and that your device's time zone matches the local time at the event venue. You can check your device's time zone in its settings. Note: the service always displays times in local time.

My event does not appear in the search even though it has been published.

The search is based on a geographic area filter. The event address must fall within the portal's geographic coverage area. The event must also be assigned to the correct event topic. Note: events lasting more than 7 days are automatically placed at the bottom of feeds such as "happening today" so that they do not obscure single-day events.

How do I change the date of a published event?

Open the event in edit mode and change the date.

My event has been published but does not appear in a specific category or area.

Check that the correct category has been selected and that the address is correct and within the service's coverage area. Addresses outside the geographic area will not appear in area searches. If needed, an admin can manually correct the geographic targeting. Note: events lasting more than 7 days are placed at the bottom of automatic feeds so that they do not obscure single-day events.

Why does my old event still appear in Google search results?

Google updates its search index on its own schedule. You can hide the event from Google searches in the content editing view – there is a separate "Hide from Google" option in the top bar of the content page. It is visible when edit mode is active and you have the required permissions to update the content page.

How do I add a new admin to my portal?

Go to the portal management view and send an invitation to the user's email address. The user does not need an existing account – the system will create one when the invitation is sent, if one does not already exist. The invitation must be accepted and a password set before the user can log in and start using the portal.

I cannot grant publisher or moderator rights to a user.

Check that the user does not have an active but unconfirmed account in the service. If the user has previously created an account that has not been confirmed, the system will display an error. Find the user in user management and send them a re-confirmation email. If this does not work, send a request to support@townbase.com stating the service name and the user's email address.

How do I remove admin or moderator rights?

For admin rights, send a request to support@townbase.com stating the service name and the user's email address. You can remove moderator rights yourself from the management panel. Note: removing admin rights does not delete the user's account from the service.

What is the difference between the admin, moderator and publisher roles?

An admin has full rights to manage the portal. A moderator can approve and reject content but cannot change portal settings. A publisher can add content directly without moderation on behalf of any organisation.

How do I create a widget for my website?

Widgets are created in the portal's Widget management view. First configure the widget's settings and content search logic, after which an embed code is generated. You can paste the embed code into your website's HTML, for example in an embed window. With a consumer account you can create a widget for your own events. Admin accounts can create platform-wide widgets such as theme-based, area-based or target-group-based content collections and combinations thereof.

The widget does not show all events or shows incorrect events.

Check the widget's area and category settings in the Widget management view. Long-running or recurring events may require specific settings. Events lasting more than 7 days are pushed to the bottom of list views so that they do not obscure the day's events. Contact local portal support if the problem continues.

The widget displays text incorrectly or elements overlap.

The widget's CSS may conflict with the website's own style definitions. You can edit the CSS yourself – for example, you can override the font, font size and font colour in the Widget management panel's CSS settings. If the problem persists, send the widget name, service name and a link to the widget to our support team.

My API key does not work – I receive an "apiKey is invalid" error.

API keys are specific to the portal, user and domain. Check that you are using the key issued for the correct domain and portal. If the key has expired or changed, contact local service support to obtain a new one.

Past events are not returned through the API.

The API is by default limited to upcoming and ongoing events. Retrieving past events requires additional permissions on the API key. Contact local service support.

Events from Lippu.fi, Ticketmaster or another external source appear twice.

Duplicates occur when the same event comes from an external source and is also entered manually. Contact support and we can activate a direct link from the ticketing service to your organiser profile. This will automatically show flagged events under your profile's "Our events" feed and give you the right to edit them. Contact local support to activate the link.

The print export does not arrive or contains incorrect content.

Check via management that the area filters and category filters are set correctly. The most common causes are a missing area filter, an incorrect date range or a failed merging of event themes. Contact local support if the problem recurs.

The print export delivery time needs to be changed.

A change to the delivery time is made via a support request. State the current time, the new desired time and the publication for which the change is needed. Remember to include the newspaper name and the service supporting the local newspaper.
