TECHNOLOGY FROM NORTHERN EUROPE

Local discovery infrastructure — built for everyone who shapes city life

Townbase is not an app. It's not a website template. It's the platform layer that powers local discovery — for cities, media organisations, developers, and communities — each using exactly what they need, together building something bigger.

ABOUT PLATFORM

One platform. Many ways in.

Some of our customers run a full white-label city guide under their own brand. Others embed a single event widget into an existing website. Some build entirely custom experiences using our API. And some use Townbase to collect, curate and moderate community-submitted content — then distribute it wherever their audiences are.

There's no single "right" way to use Townbase. What connects every use case is the same underlying infrastructure: structured, real-time local event and content data, built to be published, embedded, or integrated — at any scale.

When you join Townbase, you don't just get a product. You become part of an ecosystem.

Better.Together.

Every city, media house, tourism board, and developer that joins the Townbase platform adds to a shared layer of local knowledge. Content published on one platform enriches the data available to others. Audiences reached through one channel help surface events and experiences to new communities.

This is by design. Townbase is positioned so that all participants — content producers, platform operators, and consumers — benefit. No walled gardens. No zero-sum competition. Just more local experiences, reaching more people.

Today the Townbase ecosystem reaches over 3.5 million consumers and 50,000+ organisations across Finland — and is expanding across Europe.

DISCOVERY API

Infrastructure for discovery — not event management

Townbase does not sell tickets. It does not manage RSVPs or guest lists. It is not a venue booking tool.

Discovery at its core

What it does is make local events and activities findable — at city scale. It aggregates content from multiple sources, lets community members and organisers submit their own events, and distributes that content through branded guides, embeddable widgets, and open APIs.

Think of it as the layer that sits between local life happening and people actually finding out about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Townbase a single product or a platform?

Townbase is a platform — a suite of products built on shared infrastructure. You can use a single component like a widget or API, or deploy a full white-label city guide. Most customers start with one product and expand over time.

Do I need a developer to get started?

Not necessarily. A full branded city guide can be up and running in around two days with no development work. If you want to build custom experiences using our API or embed widgets into an existing site, a developer will be useful — but the barrier is low. Embedding our content as a Widget takes approximately 30 seconds for example.

Is this only for cities and municipalities?

No. Cities and municipalities are a core customer segment, but Townbase powers event discovery for media organisations, tourism boards, destination marketing organisations, regional portals, and businesses of all sizes. If your audience needs to find out what's happening locally, Townbase is built for you.

How is Townbase different from Eventbrite or Facebook Events?

Eventbrite and Facebook Events are tools for individual event organisers. Townbase is infrastructure for the organisations that aggregate, curate and publish local content at scale — cities, media houses, and platforms. We don't sell tickets and we don't compete with your existing ticketing provider. We make your entire local event ecosystem discoverable in one place, under your brand.

Can I use just the API, or do I have to take the full platform?

You can use just the API. Or just a widget. Or just a branded guide. Townbase is modular by design — you take what fits your use case and can add more as your needs grow.

Is Townbase GDPR-compliant and EU-hosted?

Yes. Townbase is built and operated in Northern Europe, data is stored within the EU, and the platform is designed to be EU and UK GDPR-compliant by default. For public sector and municipal customers, this is a core requirement — not an afterthought.

How quickly can we get started?

A branded event guide can be live in approximately two days. Widget integrations can be done in under an hour. API access is available immediately upon request. There are no lengthy procurement cycles or heavy implementation projects.
